We have provided two lists of changes you can make “today” to help your child’s fitness.
We don’t expect you to make all of these changes. Actually, we would suggest just making one change at a time and continuing until it has become a habit or way of life. The lists are divided into Activity Suggestions and Nutrition Suggestions. We have each list here on the website, as well as a printable PDF version for you to use. Pick one that would benefit your child and family.
Some of these changes are small and some are more demanding, but all can help with your ultimate goal of improved fitness. Once you are ready, revisit the list and pick another change to make. Each change starts as a “We will” statement because it takes the entire household to buy into a change and to make it happen and be worthwhile.
Every child and situation is different. If you are having trouble deciding what to choose, first decide what your goal is. If your child is not very active or is not getting the recommended 60 minutes of activity per day then you would want to choose an item from Activity Suggestions. If you feel your child needs to make a change in their eating habits then pick an item from Nutrition Suggestions. We do not want to be too restrictive so try to pick an item that is an area that you need improvement and only pick what is appropriate for your family.
These are just suggestions to start making a difference. We provide much more specific information in our podcast, Move It! with Dr. Jon, and to Members of our community. By listening to the podcast and joining our community, you can learn more about what your child needs physically and emotionally to help them stay fit.
